The Holy Bible... London: Robert Barker, 1613. Large folio, 19th century gilt paneled calf, newly rebacked; LACKS the general title (which is supplied in facsimile); there is staining to the outer margin of the leaf following the general title (the dedication to King James); the top outer corner of Bbb1 (Ezekiel 27) has been torn off and a bit awkwardly pasted back on; there is a marginal repair to Cccc1; there is a light dampstain at the top from the last few leaves of the OT through the first few leaves of Matthew; there is a bit of minor soiling. The text generally is in very good condition with good margins throughout (The pages are 15 5/16” tall and the binding 15¾”.)
. ***Herbert 322; a 72 line large folio pulpit Bible, every bit as tall as the 59 line 'HE' and 'SHE' folios of 1611 and 1613/11, but with a smaller black letter font resulting in a thinner (but not thin!) volume. This was apparently not judged a success as further large folio KJV Bibles designed for pulpit use were printed in the 59 line format. An incomplete copy of the Genealogies (often not included in this edition) is bound in, lacking pages 1-10 and the map.
***Quite a good copy of this very early large folio KJV, complete apart from the facsimile general title; not nearly as expensive as its near contemporary, the 1613/11 'SHE' folio. $8500. SOLD.
