Short List #4: The American Bible Union was formed by Baptists in order to publish a Bible which translated 'immerse' as the proper translation of the Greek word 'Baptizo';  thus "John the Immerser" and not "John the Baptist".  The NT was published in two parts and then revised and revised again. Eventually the whole Bible was published and lastly the whole was published in two versions, one reading 'immerse' and the other 'baptize'.Over quite some years, beginning in 1852, a series of large quartos was published with the text in parallel columns and an explanatory commentary below.  The first list has the New Testaments and the second the large quarto volumes.

American Bible Union .... New Testament in quarto parts

[American Bible Union]: See Hills 1764 & Herbert 1910 and 1946 for a mostly complete listing of titles published; the American Bible Union was founded by Baptists who wanted to produce a distinctively ‘Baptist’ version; The most notable distinctive of this version is the rendering of the Greek word 'baptizo' by the English 'immerse': thus not “John the Baptist”, but "John the Immerser".the NT was first published in parts with extensive notes and then, somewhat revised and without notes, as a whole in a small 8vo edition. The quarto parts are mostly quite scarce, some are rare and there are no known surviving copies of a few. They are approximately 11 ¾” tall and 9” wide.
